Cognizant of the prevailing economic situation caused by COVID 19 globally, authorities of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have secured and distributed 250 bags of 25kg parboiled rice among its staff to enhance nutrition and resilience in the wake of COVID 19 pandemic.

The EPA is the Government of Liberia lead institution for regulating the environment and serves as the National Designated Authority (NDA) for the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The agency received funding from the GCF through the Readiness Support Project and got approval to apply portion of the funds to enhance the capacity of the NDA to respond to COVID-19.

“This includes installing ICT equipment for video conferencing and online engagements; procurement and supply of COVID-19 preventive materials and food items for staff of the EPA,” Jeremiah G. Sokan, Sr., coordinator for National Climate Change Secretariat said.

Speaking at a brief ceremony prior to the distribution of the rice, EPA Acting Executive Director, Randall M. Dobayou, II said the rice is intended to motivate staff of the agency and enhance their resilience as the nation battles the pandemic.

He disclosed that authorities of the EPA were also able to secured US$ 8,690 to be distributed among staff of the institution as Independence Day gift.

He encouraged staff of the agency to work diligently and forget about being loyal to individuals.

Mr. Dobayou spoke against gossip and acts that would undermine the works of the agency.

He also cautioned staff against using their relationship with people in the executive to disrespect their colleagues or their supervisors.

Several employees of the EPA in separate statements lauded the agency for the gesture.
