During our Nationwide County Tour, the EPA team discovered serious environmental violations in Grand Gedeh County.
We’re seeing a troubling rise in small and semi-industrial mining, especially in the Glio-Twabo and Billibo electoral districts.
In Glio-Twabo, numerous Class B and C mining sites were found operating without adherence to environmental laws, with Class C miners illegally using excavators.
In Billibo District #2, two sites are being operated by Scott Investment were violating critical regulations, leading to an immediate Halt Order and the seizure of key equipment.
The forestry sector is also facing challenges, with Euro Logging obstructing inspections and Horizon Logging leaving behind abandoned equipment and logs.
Additionally, Patarah Farm in Jaibo was found cultivating cocoa on 600 acres without the necessary environmental permit.
The EPA is dedicated to continuous monitoring to ensure compliance with Liberia’s environmental laws.
