Nairobi, Kenya | August 24, 2026 — Liberia has strengthened its capacity to advance national climate adaptation efforts following the successful participation of its National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Focal Point, Mr. Arthur R.M. Becker, in a four-day Regional Training of Trainers Workshop on National Adaptation Plans for African Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The training, held from August 18–21, 2026, in Nairobi, Kenya, brought together NAP focal points, climate change practitioners, technical experts, and other stakeholders from across Africa to enhance national capacities for adaptation planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.

Mr. Becker, who also serves as Director of the Department of Multilateral Environmental Agreements at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia, represented Liberia at the regional gathering.

The workshop focused on strengthening participants’ practical knowledge and skills to support the effective implementation of National Adaptation Plans and improve climate resilience at national and sub-national levels.

A major component of the training was the NAPX Tool, a platform designed to help countries track adaptation actions, monitor implementation progress, identify gaps, and improve coordination among institutions and sectors. Participants received practical training on the application of the tool and explored ways it can be adapted to national circumstances.

The training also focused on developing participants as national trainers and resource persons who can share the knowledge and skills gained with government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders involved in climate adaptation planning and implementation.

The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences, share lessons learned, and explore practical approaches to strengthening adaptation financing, reporting, monitoring, and implementation across African countries.

At the conclusion of the training, participants were equipped with improved technical knowledge and practical approaches to support the integration of climate adaptation priorities into national development planning and investment processes.

Mr. Becker’s participation reflects Liberia’s continued efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and advance the implementation of the country’s National Adaptation Plan (2020–2030), with a focus on building resilience among vulnerable communities and ecosystems affected by climate change.

The knowledge and skills gained from the regional training are expected to contribute to Liberia’s ongoing efforts to improve coordination, monitoring, and implementation of climate adaptation actions across the country.
