Monrovia, Liberia | October 25, 2026 — The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia has received four brand-new Yamaha motorcycles from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the Energy and Environment Unit, to strengthen field inspection, environmental monitoring, and enforcement activities across the country’s 15 counties.
The handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at the EPA headquarters in Mamba Point, Monrovia, marking another step toward improving the Agency’s operational capacity and reach.
Presenting the motorcycles, UNDP Representative Michael Vawah reaffirmed the importance of the EPA’s work in safeguarding Liberia’s environment. He noted that the support was intended to assist the Agency’s Inspectorate Department in carrying out its responsibilities more effectively.
Receiving the motorcycles on behalf of the Agency, EPA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo expressed appreciation to the UNDP Energy and Environment Program, headed by Moses Kansuah , for its continued support toward strengthening the EPA’s field operations.
Dr. Yarkpawolo explained that the motorcycles would help address persistent transportation challenges faced by environmental inspectors, improving their mobility and enabling them to conduct inspections and monitoring activities more efficiently across the counties.
He further called on development partners and other stakeholders to deepen their collaboration with the EPA, emphasizing that protecting Liberia’s environment requires sustained collective action, adequate operational support and a shared commitment to environmental sustainability.
The provision of the motorcycles is expected to enhance the Inspectorate Department’s ability to reach communities, monitor environmental compliance and respond more effectively to environmental concerns.
