Monrovia, Liberia – The Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia (EPA) has announced the opening of registration for the 8th Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Licensure Training.
The program, set to run from March 3 to March 14, 2025, in Monrovia, is designed to enhance the skills of independent evaluators, project developers, and environmental practitioners across the country.
According to the EPA, the training will focus on renewing licenses for current independent evaluators, certifying new evaluators, and providing technical certification for safeguard officers, environmental practitioners, and project proponents.
It will also accredit new environmental consultancy firms that meet EPA requirements. Participants will receive training on the agency’s standardized reporting format and learn about Liberia’s ESIA process, which aims to improve the quality of environmental reports and their utilization in policy development and project planning.
The registration process began on January 20, 2025, and will continue until March 1, 2025. The fees for the training vary depending on the category of participants. Independent evaluators seeking certification are required to pay $1,500 USD, project developers or proponents will pay $1,000 USD, and representatives from government ministries, agencies, and multilateral organizations, including safeguard officers, are required to pay $500 USD.
The EPA has outlined the key events leading up to the training. The selection of training facilitators is expected to be finalized between January 20 and February 15, 2025, with contractual arrangements for the program being completed by March 2, 2025.
