Liberia is located on the West Coast of Africa. It is bordered by Sierra Leone on the west, Guinea on the north, Côte d’Ivoire on the east, and the Atlantic Ocean on the south. It lies between the longitudes of 7030and 11030
west and latitudes of 40 18and 80 30
north. Liberia was founded in 1822 by Liberian people transported to Africa from America and got its independence on July 26, 1847 as a unitary constitutional republic and representative democracy. The executive branch of Liberia is divided into 15 functional sub-national administrative governance institutions called ‘counties’ and headed by superintendents who are appointed by the president. Other levels of local administration are the chiefdoms, headed by paramount and clan chiefs.
