AN ACT CREATING THE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA)

An Act to establish a monitoring, coordinating and supervisory authority for the sustainable management of the environment in partnership with regulated Ministries and organizations and in a close and responsive relationship with the people of Liberia; and to provide high quality information and advice on the state of the environment and for
matters connected therewith.

The Environmental Protection and Management Law
This Act establishes a legal framework for the sustainable development, management and protection of the environment by the Environment Protection Agency in partnership with regulated Ministries and organizations, and to provide high quality information and advice on the state of the environment and for related matters. Section 77 on the protection of forest sets that guidelines issued by the Agency shall take into account the fact that forest land acts as sink for greenhouse gases. Part VII, section 83, 1.g) charges the Agency to measure the value of unexploited natural resources in terms of watershed protection an influences on climate and other potential genetic value. Section 89 insists on the role of rain forests as a sink for greenhouse gases.
Republic of Liberia National Solid Waste Management Policy

Liberia has had a long Journey in the process of formulation a national waste management policy. The fourteen of sanitation services and resulted in the collapse of the public waste management system. Indiscriminate open disposal of waste in urban area is widespread across the country in the absence of a regulatory framework. While waste management is a major responsibility of local governments, this complex task requires sustainable planning, organization and cooperation between the waste generators, local communities, services providers and municipal authorities at national, regional and local levels.

Guidelines for the Importation, Handling, Transportation and Storage of Chemicals In Liberia
As part of its mandate under Part II Section 6 of the Environmental Protection Agency Act and Part IV Section 49 of the Environmental Protection and Management Law of Liberia, the EPA formulates these guidelines for subsequent promulgation. These guidelines are intended for person(s), companies and other stake holders involved in any act of importation, handling, transportation and storage of chemicals (agrochemicals, explosives, laboratory, industrial chemicals, petrochemicals and additives) into Liberia. These guidelines are for obtaining license to import, handle, transport and store chemicals in Liberia. These guidelines prohibits the importation of chemicals restricted under international conventions to which Liberia is a state party.
Environmental & Social Impact Assessment Procedural Guidelines 2017
The Environmental Protection and Management Law (EPML) provides for a wide ranging responsibility for environmental management by the EPA. One of the most prominent mandates is the need for development of administrative procedures for the preparation of ESIA to ensure effective environmental governance. The required administrative procedures and how they are arranged to reflect the intent of the law is the subject of the following guidelines. These Guidelines will be reviewed periodically and updated when necessary.
