NAGOYA Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS)
The Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity is an international agreement which aims at sharing the benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources in a fair and equitable way. It entered into force on 12 October 2014, 90 days after the date of deposit of the fiftieth instrument of ratification.

Liberia's Progress
Liberia, through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently implementing public awareness, education and information dissemination on the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) project. The project is intended to provide information, education and awareness to Liberian stakeholders on the need of the protocol and significance of stakeholders in taking appropriate measures towards access to genetic resources, benefit-sharing and compliance. The project targets mainly policy makers, traditional leaders and traditional knowledge holders and healers.
