World Bank Delegation Meets with EPA on Climate Related Issues

Monrovia, Liberia – September 25, 2025 – A high-level delegation from the World Bank Liberia Office today met with the management of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to discuss progress, challenges, and new opportunities in tackling climate-related issues in Liberia.

The meeting focused on reviewing the strides made by the EPA, identifying gaps, and making practical recommendations to strengthen climate action. Both institutions also agreed to align their priorities in order to improve the effective implementation of ongoing projects and enhance Liberia’s resilience to climate impacts.

Welcoming the team, Acting EPA Deputy Executive Director, Hon. Anthony S. Kollie, appreciated the World Bank for its continued support. He assured the delegation that the EPA remains committed to advancing climate programs that will benefit communities across the country.

During a guided tour of the EPA’s newly constructed laboratory, Mr. Rafael S. Ngumbu, Manager for Environmental Research and Radiation Safety, highlighted the importance of having a modern and climate-friendly facility. He explained that the new center at Mamba Point would serve as a hub for environmental research, scientific clinics, and fieldwork support. According to him, the EPA is working hard to secure a permanent green and climate-resilient home that will showcase Liberia’s commitment to protecting the environment.

Members of the World Bank delegation expressed their appreciation for the EPA’s efforts and reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting climate action in Liberia.

Those in attendance from the World Bank included Mr. Collins Chausa, Senior Health Economist, who stressed the importance of integrating environmental health with climate programs; Mr. Jose Facha, Health Specialist, who encouraged building stronger links between climate adaptation and community health services; and Ms. Ndahua Gordon, Civil Engineer, who underscored the need for sustainable infrastructure that can withstand the impacts of climate change.

The meeting formed part of the World Bank’s Implementation Support Mission under its ongoing projects, including the Institutional Foundations to Improve Service for Health and the Health Security Program in Western and Central Africa.
