The EPA in Collaboration with Conservation International (CI) Launch Global Mangrove Alliance…

The Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia with funding from the Conservation International on today Thursday, August 1, 2024 Launch the Global Mangrove Alliance Liberia chapter at the Mamba Point hotel in Monrovia.
Launching the Alliance officially, Dr. Emmanuel Urey Yarpawolo asserted that the program will cut across academia, people living alongside the mangroves, and stake holders amongst others.
According to Dr. Urey, the EPA is working with Mr. John Kollie of the LMDI on an awareness initiative in Monrovia and its environs as a means of public awareness and education.
The ED further stressed the need of not underestimating the role of mangroves ecosystem as there is a rise in sea level in our 9 coastal counties across the country.
Dr. Yarkawolo however noted that the launch of the Global Mangrove Alliance should serve as a wake up call for the involvement of all state and non- state actors in the management of the mangrove ecosystem across the country.
He also stressed the importance of the planned mangrove inventory by the Government of Liberia through the EPA, FDA and other institutions in Collaboration with partners at the Conservation International, data that will be generated from the exercise will enable the Government to make informed decisions on the issue of the Country’s Carbon sink as we anticipate building a framework in managing our precious resources.
Adding that the launch of this all-important platform is an effort to domesticate the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance known as the Ramsar
Convention.
