New EPA Executive Director Receives UNDP Country Representative

The Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia (EPA), Dr. Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo, on Wednesday, received a four-member delegation from the United Nations Development Programmer – UNDP at his office in Sinkor.

Dr. Urey Yarkpawolo in his welcoming statement praised the UNDP for her continued support to Liberia, especially towards the improvement of the environmental sector.

The newest EPA boss emphasized the importance of sustaining the long-standing partnership between UNDP Liberia and the Environmental Protection Agency – EPA and committed to strengthening the position of EPA as a credible and respectable partner worthy of confidence and trust.

Dr. Yarkpawolo promised the UNDP that under his administration, the EPA would work hard to implement President Boakai’s vision for a clean and healthy environment.

Among other things, the meeting also paved the way for both partners to highlight the current pipeline of projects that the two entities are implementing as well as emerging and evolving opportunities to mobilize resources and support for environmental governance and sustainability in Liberia.

For his part the Resident Representative of UNDP Liberia, Louis Kuukpen, congratulated Dr. Urey Yarkpawolo on his appointment and reaffirmed UNDP’s continued support and collaboration with the EPA.

He disclosed that the EPA remains a key partner to the UNDP, while emphasizing the importance of environmental sustainability to economic growth in the country.

The two officials reaffirmed their commitment to building the EPA’s capacity as a driver for inclusive growth and sustainable development, including support to decentralizing the EPA, consistent with the Act creating the EPA.
